Yuletide letter 2017

Dear Author,

Apologies for the slightly spartan looking journal. It's what happens when people at work suddenly find your 15 year old journal and everything needs to be built back up from scratch again. If you're worried about this being a sock journal, or me being a no-show on reveals, please see my AO3 profile for last year's fic by me and gift (along with a slightly embarrassing review by me for my PH author because! Star Wars RPF! Domhnall Gleeson! I digress). Yuletide is the only time I have enough time off from Real Life to indulge in fandom, so please be assured that I do take this Seriously Enough. LOL.

Anyway, thanks for getting me! I hope that my prompts make sense and that you're not too confused or frustrated by any of my requests. As always, optional details are optional and I'm just happy to be getting any fic at all - so go ahead and write gen if you prefer. I'm cool with almost anything. Except my squicks (which are listed below).

From previous Yuletides, here's a general list of what I like and what I don't:

Also, I know I've requested slash for all of these pairings, but that's an optional detail - I'm equally happy with gen fic. And if you do decide to go down the slashy path, please know that I'm fine with just kissing or fade-to-black scenarios if full-blown smut is not your thing.

Fandom-wise, here are my optional details (which are Optional, obvs):

Dunkirk Collins, Farrier

Given that Christopher Nolan gave us little to no characterisation for either of his Spitfire pilots, it’s been amazing to see how fandom has stepped in the fill the void. If slash doesn't appeal, you could just side-step the slashy suggestions I've got, and write me gen about Collins finally reuniting with Farrier when the latter has made it back to base after escaping from Colditz and the two of them going for a pint.

Or, if you want to go slashy, you could go with the standard reunited after V-Day. So let’s say Farrier has carried the memory of Collins around with him through all the different Oflags all through the war. Maybe they had something going on even before the Operation Dynamo. Maybe they were just about to start, but got cut off because of the war. Maybe Collins has been oblivious all this time as to just how much Farrier feels for him, because he’s too busy hero-worshipping the older pilot. How do their differing experiences of war affect their relationship? Or, more smuttily - how do they celebrate the end of the war? Is it all just quick, frantic fumblings in the dark? Or is it something slower, and does Farrier take his time with Collins because he’s had to wait five years and he’s going to enjoy every second of the time they have together (and Collins is just frantic for him to finish)? I’ll leave the details to you. Just please, please no sad endings for the pilots. They’ve had to endure enough already.

Dunkirk RPF Tom Hardy, Jack Lowden

(this is the long-shot fandom for me, but if you are so inspired, please do feel free to pick up this idea!)

(Also, I realise the age-gap might be an issue so feel free to discuss that in the fic or handwave it away)

So, according to Jack, they filmed together for, what, all of one week or so? And for that time they were both basically the only actors on set. What did they do? Bond over football scores? Discuss musical influences (given that Jack would have just finished filming England is Mine not long before and there is photographic evidence of Jack listening to some choice tunes before filming)? Jack’s said a few times that Tom gave him some really good advice about his career, but is that all he gave him? This could be as gen as you want, dear author, or as smutty as you can make it. I’d be happy either way. You could also set it during the press junket for Dunkirk - how would the two of them react to seeing each other again?

AUs are fine as well, if you want to try that.

Peaky Blinders Alfie Solomons

This request is more for character fic than anything else. Alfie’s such a great personality - he adds that little element of unexpectedness (and also the swearing is hilarious) to proceedings on the show, so I’d like to see his background fleshed out a bit more. We all know that Alfie’s mother is Russian and that she had to flee Russia because she was Jewish. But what else is there to know about Alfie? How did he rise to become the Head Baker of his operation in Camden Town? What was his experience of the Great War like, and how would that have affected the man he’s portrayed to be in the show? What caused him to fall out with Sabini? 

 

If you wanted to pair him up with Tommy, that could be interesting (and hot), but I think I’d prefer a gen fic. Or you could invent some other lover, male or female - what kind of impression would they leave on a man like Alfie?

 

Versailles Louis XIV, Monsieur

Whatever kind of relationship (slashy or not) between the brothers you would like is up to you. I’m just intrigued by the repercussions of Season 2 and how that’s changed the dynamic between Louis and Philippe. On the one hand, you have Philippe being brilliant in mimicking Louis during the meeting with the Indian ambassador. On the other, there is the fact that Philippe has literally put himself in danger for his brother (and oh, who could forget the Chevalier’s moment of heroics??). This relationship is all about Louis’ control and dominance over his younger brother and the way it has evolved over the past Season has been fascinating to watch, both in terms of Louis’ own insecurities and Philippe’s sacrifices. I’d like to see that explored a little more in fic. Does Louis reward his brother for what he’s done, as he did with the Chevalier? What form might that reward take? How would they deal with the aftermath of The Affair of the Poisons? How does Philippe respond to the threats against Louis’ life?

 

Honestly, a fic in any one of these fandoms would be terrific. I’ll leave the optional details up to you, dear author. Let your imagination run wild, and have an awesome Yuletide!
